Modeling: Breaking Into the Biz
Looking to break into the modeling biz wasn’t always Tyra’s dream, but became a passion after all the research dedication. Is modeling YOUR dream? Here are some of Tyra’s tips on how to prepare for your modeling career.
1. Pick a favorite model and study them. Everything from the way they turn their head to their fierce runway walk.
2. Snapshots. You MUST have a beauty shot - from the neck up - before going anywhere. Have a friend with a nice camera take one in black and white! Check out an example of Tyra's beauty shot to the right.
3. Study, Study, Study. As Tyra always says on America’s Next Top Model, you need to know everything from fashion designers, photographers, supermodels, and all in between.

how do we find good, current designers and photographers?
I would like to know E-VER-Y-THIIING... that's why I will take the first step and do my homework ^_^ study study study and research everythiiing.. my journey starts now..
I actually don't want to be a model. I want to either act or sing or be a gymnast....but I'll most likely end up being in politcs or something. Ugh.
I turned down a huge modeling opportunity to make my mom proud, I promised I'd graduate college and I'm doing it, but modeling will always be my first love so I won't stop 100%...just in submission...Watch out for me ;-)
Any hopes of breaking in at 31 if you photograph, much, much younger?
How about us "old" ladies? I wonder if there is any modeling work out there for us 40-ish gals who look younger for our ages.....

Im signed with an agency, but they don't seem to be doing much for me or finding me work. I was wondering what a good agency would be to join, or if Id be better off on my own. I have a portfolio that is always updating. I just want my passion to come alive more & be an icon for the next generation.

This can be 1 way for aspiring models to educate ourselves on the key people in the industry that we should be aware of. I started doing research on my own and currently I am loving Liya Kebede. Not only is she a supermodel with an amazing bone-structure and face that was discovered on the whim, but more importantly she have a great spirit and gives back immensely to the mothers of Ethiopia.

I am a bit confused because some photographers think that I can be an editorial model and others say no way you are all commercial. Most of the reputable agencies that are well known are geared towards fashion models. What advise, or agencies rather, can I contact that are reputable in the business that cater to commercial models.

I have been trying to be a modle for years but
I'm 5'1 and I'd like to modle for different reasons
then just the fame and fashion. I'm a vegan not only for my health
but animals and the earth. I want to raise awarness to these problems
by modeling for animal organizations like PETA with the I'd rather go naked then wear fur campaine and anything else possible. As well as rescue animals in between modeling. I want to go from country to countryletting people know how much of a problem this has become. Please Tyra Help me getting this started

My name is Anais, and I am an aspiring Latina/ European model in Orlando, Florida. The problem is, I'm short 5'3.5" and in Orlando here the market is full of hispanic models and is making it very hard for me to find any work. I see all the time on your web site that you need to be 5'7" or taller on your America's Next top model. I have composite cards, but I still need advice when it comes to finding work. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated.
