The July Issue // Fashion Focus // Designer Spotlight - LITTER Jewelry
LITTER
Hot on our radar: a line of kickass headpieces and body jewelry worn by models at Christian Cota’s Spring 2010 runway show at New York Fashion Week earlier this fall , a mere nine months after it’s debut. Litter, a cool collection of shoe jewelry, thigh and shoulder chains has garnered almost as much buzz as the clothing line they were asked to accent. (Shout-out to the show’s stylist, socialite Lauren Santo Domingo who brought them in and caused quite a stir when she rocked their thigh chain while sitting front row at the show).
With the items being one-of-a-kind pieces made from refurbished chains acquired from Goodwill and flea market finds, Litter’s founders --and real life sisters-- Rachael Mann and Mackenzie Burdick get extra cool points for being eco-chic .
Now that the smokin' sisters' Litter blog has a nice following, they’re doing mini-trunk shows around the country and will eventually expand to clothing and furniture. Not bad for the San Francisco-based siblings who never set out to be jewelry designers when they made their first piece last winter, a handmade chain headband with a nut and bolt inspired by Nicole Richie’s take on Pocahontas.
Now that’s what the heck you call a chain reaction.
