Straight from Heather Bauer – Tyra’s go-to-girl for all things health – are the fundamental five things to start eating healthy and keep that New Year’s resolution of getting YOUR shape in shape for 2010!
1. “Love 'Em” vs. “Leave 'Em” Carbs!
Love 'Em Carbs are carbohydrates that you should embrace, like whole grains and vegetables. Love 'Em Carbs are best to enjoy at dinner and you should try to limit to about 1-2 per day.
Leave 'Em Carbs are refined carbohydrates like white bread, cakes, bagels, pasta, etc. They have no nutritional value, they tend to be high in calories and they make you feel tired. So Leave ‘em alone!
2. You can never be too Fiberlicious! Fiber is important for so many reasons. It helps keep you full longer, stabilizes your blood sugar, keeps your cholesterol down, and it’s heart healthy! Tyra’s 3 favorite sources of fiber are fiber rich crackers, oatmeal and whole wheat tortillas.
3. Water works! Water is the best thing you can drink to stay hydrated. You should be drinking at least 64 ounces of water everyday (that’s only about 4 bottles). Many people mistake thirst for hunger and end up snacking when all they really need is a glass of water!
4. Powerful protein! You should be eating one protein at every meal (about the size of 2 stacked iPhones). It keeps you satisfied and can help boost your metabolism. Try to choose lean proteins like fish, turkey, chicken, egg whites and lean beef. It’s best when it is grilled, steamed, broiled, baked, or poached.
5. Dear (food) Diary! Keep a quick journal of everything that you eat. Writing down what you are putting in your body will help you to identify your eating patterns, this way you can see which food categories – carbs, fiber, protein, vegetables, fluid – you need more or less of!

I love vegetables and lots of water. I don't drink dark soda or but my weakness is chocolate. ABSOLUTELY no pork, beef or any kind of red meat....
One thing i have learned DONT EAT WRAPS white bread is more healthy for you , dont have four glasses of water a day have 8 and i read in an article its helps burn off belly fat

I LOVE WATER SO WATER IS NOT THE PROBLEM. MY PROBLEM IS POTATOES AND BREADS. BUT MY FOOD DIARY IS HELPING ME CUT THEM DOWN AND ADD MORE WATER.
I am addicted to water. Especiall during the summer when I train alot at the fire station. Drinking water can also save money as well as lowering the sugar and calorie intake. Its tons of calories....So get water, have 0 calories put in your body, and save tons of money!!!

I would find it incredibly hard ... moreJust a quick comment on the above statement. You state you should only have 1-2 servings of the "Love em' Carbs" a day? Dietitians of Canada advise between 5-7 for woman and 7-10 for men. I would find it incredibly hard to stick to two servings ( at the most a day), as well as waiting until dinner to have them! I totally follow the "good carb Vs. bad Card" lifestyle...but 1-2 servings is far too low. Is that all you allow yourself Tyra?

Pasta's bad for you? I never thought about that. I knew that stuff like white breads had bad carbs, but not pasta! And the food diary seems like a really good idea. Thanks for the tips!
Yea i think my problem is when i need a meal quick i always seem to end up with pasta on my plate...shells and cheese, or italian. I really need to watch the pasta
oh my gosh I LOVE BREAD!!! haha but i'm trying to cut back, and I'm drinking lots of water nowadays

Anyways, I wanted to say that I got bored with what I should eat for my sides at dinner. Well, we have TONS of fruit at my house and I chopped up 3 different fruits and put them together and made a mini fruit bowl. :) I just thought that was cool. Lol, thanks for reading.

If I am home all day You bet I eat all day... so I know taht when I am bound to stay home alone I blast my music, have a fair breakfast, take a shower and get my comfortable shoes on and head out for a walk or head to a ... moreIf I am home all day You bet I eat all day... so I know taht when I am bound to stay home alone I blast my music, have a fair breakfast, take a shower and get my comfortable shoes on and head out for a walk or head to a friends house. This keeps me from emptyng the fridge. When I come honme at night I head directly for the fridge but I try to grab a fruit, some yogurt, or a glass of water and go as far a way from the kitchen as possible, I turn on the TV get comfortable so that I get to comfortable to want to get off bed to grab somefood. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't (inner will)

I drink at least 1 liters of water everyday I love Water!!

These were great tips. I have noticed that sometimes when I wake up late at night feeling hungry if I drink water it will cease the feeling of hunger preventing me from turning to eating a middle of the night snack.
