X-traordinary X-Woman: Heroic Halle

Halle Berry had every reason to get worked up during her tearful 2002 Oscar acceptance speech--the girl’s a survivor. Long before her place on the A List was secured, Halle struggled to make a name for herself. The stress of her chosen career led to the early onset of Type 1 diabetes. Halle didn’t find out she was diabetic until she collapsed into a diabetic coma while filming a TV show (talk about bad timing!). Rather than let illness cramp her style, Halle works her insulin shots around her filming schedule. Even when you’re the star of the show, it can’t be convenient to drop everything for a shot.
As if health problems weren’t enough to deal with, Halle grew up witnessing domestic violence against her mother, and later became a victim herself. Halle turned her negative experiences into something positive by dedicating her time and efforts to the Jenesse Center, an LA shelter that helps battered women get back on their feet. She also has found a steady home life with a good man, Gabriel Aubry, the father of her daughter. Halle talked to Tyra recently about her new perfume, Halle, proving you should never stop dreaming big.

Halle Berry is a very beautiful woman and like you Tyra she is a very inspiring woman. I'm glad Halle told her story about DOMESTIC VIOLENCE more women will speak out.
I now have even more love and respect for Halle. May she continue to be an inspiration and a blessing to many...and I know she must have found love, growth and herself in motherhood.
