Hints to Hit the Hay

All this talk about dreaming has me thinking about sleeping!! Between my talk show, ANTM, and everything else in my life, I am SUPER busy and don’t always take the time that I should to rest up. When I first met with Heather for my Get Fit, Get Healthy Challenge, I was having a lot of trouble sleeping through the night. Heather taught me that sleep and staying healthy go hand in hand.

Catching those zzz’s is so important to staying in shape! Not getting enough sleep puts your hormone levels off track, which increases your appetite and causes your body to burn fewer calories. Bottom line- the less sleep you get, the harder it is to stay on track with your fitness goals! No matter how crazy my days are, I ALWAYS try to get 8 hours of shuteye. Here are a few things I do to make sure I get a good night’s sleep!

1. Routine Rest: Maintain a regular sleep and wake-time schedule, including weekends. It might sound crazy but my sleep schedule is so routine, I even wake up at 6/7am on Saturday and Sunday! But shh, I still take a nap later on.

2. Nix the Late Night Lunching: Stop eating 2-3 hours before bed. Even if you get out of work or school late, have a small dinner (NOT snacks!) and wait until two or three hours later to hit the hay.  The debate goes on and on, but the fact is a calorie is a calorie. Eating late at night won’t lead to weight gain, but it can get in the way of getting to sleep. When you’re watching TV and the munchies hit, remember that eating late at night can make you uncomfortable when you lie down for bed.

3. Exercise for Evening: Exercise makes it easier to fall asleep (since exercise reduces stress and can be calming) and contributes to a more sound sleep. I always try to get my exercise in a couple of hours before bed otherwise I’m too pumped to fall asleep!

4. Snack for the Sack: If it gets late and you can’t resist that midnight craving, eat some turkey (Heather calls this the “Turkey Solution”).  But only if you are really hungry.  Turkey is a healthy snack, a good source of tryptophan which can help you sleep, and it’s YUMMY!!

The only healthy living tip i realllllly want to know is this - Will i lose weight and get fitter quicker by exercising 2 hours in the morning? or two hours in the evening? Or both!? x

i am the fastest sleeper in the world, takes me less than 5mins to fall asleep. the easiest way to fall asleep, tell urself wat time u will wake up the next day, pray, think happy thots, slide into sleep, easy.

yes listening to soem nice calm music will help alot.. also no chesse or food before bed helps aslo .. plus dont watch tv if you cant sleep xx
