Debbie Harry: Lowlights
Legendary Hair is a flashback to the fierce styles of the past and a flash forward to how we rock them today...
When 80's rocker Debbie Harry stepped onto the scene with her punk band "Blondie," she stole the show. Not only was her act cutting-edge but her hair was too. No one could miss her daring hair color--not the Marilyn Monroe shade she wore on top, but the dark hue that peeked out underneath (quietly letting us know she was hardly your "typical blonde").
Debbie changed the game; blonde hair as we knew it took on a whole new meaning and the birth of three dimensional colors began. Hello, lowlights—strands of hair deliberately made darker than your natural hair color and subtly laid underneath sections of the lighter hair.
“Lowlights date back to the mid-80’s when color became more experimental," says celebrity colorist Eva Scrivo. “Historically, since the 1950’s hair color has typically been one dimensional and uniform in color, but since then, color palettes began to grow offering more options for colorist as well as the client.” Fast-forward to 2009, lowlights continue appear on fierce hair girls as the color trend that feels funky and new, yet has a classic touch. Are you a "lowlighter" too? --Tasha Turner

What was it called anyway's? I call it a blow out and my mom say's that it is a snatch back. I thought a snatch back was a Pony Tail. That's what we call it today. Anyway's I wanna know how to get whatever Claire's hair style is on the show?

I used to do both lowlights & highlights until my hair became more silver than anything else. Now I just rock the silver!
I'm a low light/highlight/ bang light/ all over dye/ frost. I think all look good. My one tip though is not to do the same color as your skin.

Different people, different feeling
I love experimenting with my hair! I'm a "lowlighter" for sure.
I absolutely ADORE Debbie Harry's hair in this photo! I think Lady Gaga's hair looks better completely platinum blonde, though.
Ya I agree! Tyra's show yesterday about about new trends of women paying for male companionship! Well she showed women how to wear there boyfriends clothes and it's funny because Matydavis.com did that a couple years ago ... moreYa I agree!
