Hey My Gorgeous Girls,
I've been trying to expand the definition of beauty through my B.I.O. (that's Beauty Inside & Out) campaign. As part of the campaign I wanted to do a plus-sized model search – ya know, represent the REAL girls. I got to thinking and since I've gotten so many requests to do a Top Model for teens, I figured I'd put the two ideas together here on Tyra.com! This is the first ever Plus-Sized Teen Model Search! But “plus-sized” models sounds so old fashioned… so I’m changing the term “Plus-Sized” and making it "Fiercely Real"! I will pick the winner ON STAGE on The Tyra Show. Yep, I want to see all ya’ll full-figured teen girls who can rock that H2T pose, take a great picture and strut their booty down the runway! Let’s show all those magazines, TV shows, blogs, designers and CRITICS (lots of them around!) that REAL girls are fierce too.
Here's what you gotta do to be in the running for our very first Fiercely Real Teen Model!
You gotta be:
- 13 – 19 years old (if you’re under 18, ya’ll gotta get your parents permission.)
- Fiercely Real Sized (ya know, plus-sized)
- And apply by FEBRUARY 5th!
Then you need to submit four photos (in leggings and a tank top/t-shirt):
When our team of judges goes through the photos, they will pick six finalists to be on The Tyra Show. The finalists will be in model challenges, photo shoots with some famous faces, and more! Come decision time, I will only have one photo in my hand… maybe it'll be yours!

The winner will receive a one year modeling contract with Wilhelmina, a spread in a Seventeen Magazine, a photo shoot for a leading clothing line, and you'll get to spend the day with me! As for Tyra.com (my MagaLine), you’ll get a fashion spread (shot by me) AND you will be modeling WITH me for the cover! Not kidding, girls. Before you get that camera out, watch my video of how to get the best submission photos... and be sure to SMIZE! Hurry, you only have until February 5th, 2010! |

It's great that you and your team kept that contest for "Fiercely Real" teens. That's a big confidence booster for many other teens and even adults out there.

And I am so glad you're doing something so amazing like this. The media is just a bland land of sticks and twigs, flat chest and tiny asses. The world needs to know a more diverse portrait of women. Andto be frank, I think most people WANT to see full, sexy hips, curves all over and the over-all confidence that goes with it! As well as women of alllll shapes and sizes, even us short girls! Ha I'm only 4'11" and I may only grow about an inch or so more.

I love how your promoting beauty of all shapes and sizes but I find it sad that you are impling that only girls and woman of 12+ sizes are real! Does that mean that anyone under size 12 is fake!? I love your show and how your promoting plus-sized modeling but it just kind of dissapoints me to read that smaller people are not real. So please in latter seasons of this show can you open it to "healthy sizes" because for some people plus-sized may not be the healthiest size for them just like super thin may not be the healthiest size for other people. Bye! :)
