Starving Is So Not Sexy
Pressure to be thin is everywhere, but when it comes down to the “skinny” how far is too far? The effects of taking dieting too far can be alarming- not to mention hazardous to your health. Here is what you need to know about the harmful dangers associated with eating disorders:

Heart disease. Starving yourself weakens your heart, which relies on protein to function properly. You increase your risk of having heart failure or even a heart attack.
- Tooth decay and Gum Disease. Frequently throwing up forces stomach acid into your whole mouth, damaging tooth enamel and weakening teeth. You can develop permanent teeth erosion and even suffer from tooth loss.
- Weak hair and nails. Malnutrition and crash dieting can affect the hair on your head and the nails on your fingers and toes. Your nails will break easily and become brittle over time while your hair may become fragile and thin, and even fall out.

Bloating and digestive problems. Eating disorders result in a host of problems such as constipation, heartburn, and abdominal and/or face swelling- just to name a few.
- Changes in your menstrual cycle. Due to poor diet and lack of iron, your cycle may become irregular and can even be disrupted.
- Mood swings and Irritability. Because of the inability of the body to cope with proper nutrition and necessary nutrients, you may often feel irritable and cranky.
It’s so important to eat well and take good care of your body. Remember that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and most importantly from within- B.I.O what?? If you think someone you know may have an eating disorder- reach out and offer your support to help. It just may save his or her life.

this bothers me SOOO much when I see girls who shouldn't even be concerned about losing weight starve to try an loose weight. I've dieted long enough to know quite a bit about it and starving is NOT a healthy way.

I agree,Starvation is not the key to a good body...you should have a balanced diet and a lot of exercising.
I eat but not a lot since only a little bit of food fills me up. I don't like to eat in front of people so when I am at work people ask me why I am not eating and they think something is wrong with me. I am twenty five years old and have suffered from anorexia/bulimia for almost over ten years now. the long term health effects that it has caused me is that now my teeth have rotten out, I have scar tissue in my small intestines, stomach, and throat. which is unrepairable and also does not allow my bowls to move correctly and is painful. I am currently working on getting better so do not worry. i would suggest NOT 2 DO IT. it kill ya I kno its almost got me several times.

Try to eat healthy food and try to work out every day. You should stay in shape that way.

She doesn't eat when someone's around, but when she's alone she eats a LOT of junkfood-- then she pukes it out. It affects not only her but everyone around her. She's losing the friends that she has cause she doesn't care anymore about the people around her. My sister has told her a lot of times what is happening-- but she won't listen. It's been going on for about 2 years, and she's worse than ever now. There's a big probability that she's not even going to graduate this year since she can't even concentrate on school work.

I eat once a day.. i dont look at it as starving i'm just watching my weight!!!
This is very helpful info Tyra...I really appreciate how you try to cover all aspects of life..the good and the bad!! Keep up the great work!! I know that I'll keep reading!! :)
